GOVERNOR ANNOUNCES NEW YORK MAIN STREET AWARDS

$8.7 Million in Program Awards to Benefit Communities Across the State

December 22, 2005

Christmas comes early to Hancock.

Governor George Pataki’s office has advised the Hancock Partners Inc. that they have been awarded $200,000 to administer as Local Program Administrator (LPA) on behalf of the New York Main Street Program.

The New York Main Street Program was launched by the Governor last year. It provides matching grants for facade and interior building renovations, streetscape enhancements, landscaping and signage and to install street furniture, and for communities to establish a business or cultural anchor in their downtown

Gerald DaBrescia, President of the Partners, was quick to point out that this grant was awarded almost solely because of the extraordinary grant application developed by local architect Bruce Moore and former Village trustee Ann Kozak. He said “Their work on the Partners application was certainly what put our request at the top of the pile”

The Partners look forward to holding public meetings to advise the public of the program benefits and to solicit applicants for these matching funds. The organization must also submit a detailed action plan to the DHCR and have a member attend January training classes in Albany to learn plan administration.
